PlayStation 5 Pro, with a 2TB SSD, a larger graphics chip, PSSR AI upscaling and Wi-Fi 7, is stocked by Mascom International at KSh 190,000, brand new and sealed. Made by Sony and first released in November 2024, the PlayStation 5 Pro is the fastest console in the PlayStation range, aimed at players who want sharper images and steadier frame rates on modern TVs. Its graphics processor has 60 compute units against 36 in the PlayStation 5 Slim. Come and see the PlayStation 5 Pro at our first-floor showroom in Old Mutual Building, Kimathi Street, Nairobi CBD.
Built for serious gamers, streamers and content creators across Kenya, the PlayStation 5 Pro suits anyone who has bought a large 4K TV and noticed that standard consoles force a choice between detail and smoothness. Customers across Nairobi tell us games on their 65-inch screens looked soft in performance mode. The PlayStation 5 Pro answers that with PSSR, a machine-learning upscaler that rebuilds each frame at higher detail, plus about twice the ray tracing speed of the standard PS5. You get clarity and frame rate together, without trading one away.
Where most Nairobi electronics shops leave buyers to discover after payment that the Pro ships without a disc drive, Mascom International says so upfront. The PlayStation 5 Pro plays downloaded games out of the box, and the PS5 Disc Drive costs KSh 17,000 if you want discs. At Mascom International, we're seeing PlayStation 5 Pro buyers pair it with PlayStation VR2 or PlayStation Portal. Buyers throughout Kenya report that the upgrade shows most on big screens. Visit our Kimathi Street store for advice, or order by phone for pay-on-arrival delivery across all 47 counties.
Common Questions About the PlayStation 5 Pro
How much is the PlayStation 5 Pro in Kenya?
The PlayStation 5 Pro costs KSh 190,000 brand new and sealed at Mascom International in Nairobi CBD. That covers the 2TB console, a DualSense wireless controller, two horizontal stand feet, the HDMI, USB and power cables, and a 12-month warranty, with pay-on-arrival delivery. The PlayStation 5 Slim Digital Edition costs KSh 100,000 here, so the Pro sits KSh 90,000 higher. Adding the PS5 Disc Drive for physical games brings the total to KSh 207,000.
Is the PlayStation 5 Pro worth KSh 90,000 more than the PlayStation 5 Slim?
The PlayStation 5 Pro is worth the extra KSh 90,000 over the PlayStation 5 Slim Digital Edition mainly if you play on a large 4K TV. The Pro's graphics chip has 60 compute units against the Slim's 36, and its 2TB of storage doubles the 1TB in the PlayStation 5 Slim Disc Edition. It also adds PSSR upscaling and Wi-Fi 7. On a Full HD TV or a small screen the gap shrinks, and the Slim Digital at KSh 100,000 makes more sense.
Does the PlayStation 5 Pro come with a disc drive?
No, the PlayStation 5 Pro ships without a disc drive, so it plays downloaded games straight out of the box. To use PS5 or PS4 discs, Blu-ray films or DVDs, add the PS5 Disc Drive, sold at Mascom International for KSh 17,000. The drive attaches to a slot on the side and pairs with the console online the first time you connect it. Gamers in Kenya who swap discs with friends or buy second-hand games often take both together.
Can the PlayStation 5 Pro handle power cuts and voltage swings in Kenya?
The PlayStation 5 Pro needs protection from sudden outages and surges, which Kenyan homes see often. A good surge protector guards against the voltage spikes that can follow a KPLC restoration. A UPS sized for the console's power draw gives you minutes to save and shut down during a blackout, protecting game data and system updates. Homes in Eldoret, Nakuru and Kisumu with frequent short cuts benefit most. Keep the console on a hard, open surface so the fan can cool it.
What is PSSR on the PlayStation 5 Pro?
PSSR, short for PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, is the AI upscaling system built into the PlayStation 5 Pro. It renders a game at a lower resolution, then uses machine learning to rebuild the image at a higher one with fine detail restored. The result is a sharp picture at high frame rates. Games need a Pro update to use it, and many major titles have one. Older games without an update can still run with steadier performance on the stronger hardware.
Does the PlayStation 5 Pro work with PlayStation VR2 and PlayStation Portal?
Yes, the PlayStation 5 Pro works with both, and Mascom International stocks each one. PlayStation VR2 at KSh 54,000 connects through the console's USB-C port and draws on the Pro's extra graphics power in supported games. PlayStation Portal at KSh 37,000 streams your games over home Wi-Fi to a handheld screen, so you keep playing while someone else watches the evening news on the main TV. A strong fibre router from Safaricom or Zuku makes Portal streaming smoother.
Does the PlayStation 5 Pro need an 8K TV?
No, the PlayStation 5 Pro does not need an 8K TV, and most owners use it on a 4K screen. The console supports 8K output, but only a handful of games target it and 8K TVs remain rare in Kenyan homes. A 4K TV with HDMI 2.1 and 120Hz gets the most from the Pro, including variable refresh rate for smoother motion. On a Full HD TV, games still look cleaner and run steadier, but the visible gain is smaller.
Who should buy the PlayStation 5 Pro, and who should skip it?
The PlayStation 5 Pro is for gamers with a large 4K TV, streamers who want clean footage and players who notice every frame drop. Skip it if you play on an older Full HD TV or mostly enjoy casual games; the PlayStation 5 Slim Disc Edition at KSh 110,000 covers those needs and reads discs without an add-on. Families on a tighter budget can look at the PlayStation 4 Pro at KSh 42,000, which still runs a large back catalogue.
Technical Specifications
Processor and Graphics
- Custom AMD 8-core Zen 2 CPU reaching up to 3.85GHz — slightly faster than the standard PS5, helping busy scenes hold frame rate.
- Upgraded AMD graphics with 60 compute units at up to 2.35GHz — 24 more units than the PS5 Slim, so each frame renders faster.
- About twice the ray tracing performance of the standard PS5 — reflections, shadows and lighting stay realistic without heavy frame drops.
- PSSR machine-learning upscaling — the console rebuilds lower-resolution frames into sharp 4K images while keeping motion smooth.
- 16GB GDDR6 memory plus 2GB DDR5 system memory — the extra memory handles background tasks, leaving more fast memory for games.
- Backward compatibility with most PS4 games — your older library runs, and many titles hold steadier frame rates on the new hardware.
Storage
- 2TB built-in SSD — twice the space of the PS5 Slim Disc Edition, so you keep a larger library before deleting anything.
- Part of the 2TB is reserved for system files — the space available for games reads lower than the box figure.
- M.2 NVMe slot supporting drives up to 8TB — expand later with a compatible SSD fitted under the side cover.
- USB extended storage for PS4 titles — park older games on an external drive and keep the internal SSD for new releases.
- Solid-state loading with no moving parts — the console pulls game data in seconds, so fast travel and restarts feel nearly instant.
- Astro's Playroom pre-installed — a ready-to-play game that shows what the DualSense controller can do on the first day.
Display Output
- HDMI 2.1 port — carries 4K at 120Hz and variable refresh rate signals to modern TVs and gaming monitors.
- Up to 8K output — supported on compatible TVs, though most games target 4K for the best balance of detail and speed.
- 4K at up to 120fps — sharp detail and fluid motion at the same time on compatible screens.
- HDR output — richer contrast and brighter highlights on HDR-capable televisions, especially in dark game scenes.
- Variable refresh rate — the TV refresh follows the console frame rate, removing tearing in demanding moments.
- Blu-ray and DVD playback with the optional PS5 Disc Drive attached — turns the console into a capable film player.
Controllers
- DualSense wireless controller included — the standard PS5 controller with haptics, adaptive triggers and a built-in microphone.
- Haptic feedback — detailed vibration that lets you feel footsteps, rainfall and engine rumble through the grips.
- Adaptive triggers — resistance in L2 and R2 changes with the action, such as pulling back a tight bowstring.
- Built-in speaker and 3.5mm headset jack — hear in-game sounds from the controller or plug in wired earphones.
- Supports the DualSense Edge — Sony's pro-grade controller with swappable sticks and back buttons for competitive play.
- USB charging cable included — charge the controller from the console's front port while you keep playing.
Connectivity
- Wi-Fi 7 — the latest wireless standard, giving faster and more stable downloads on a compatible router.
- Gigabit Ethernet — a wired connection for low-lag online matches and steady large downloads.
- Bluetooth 5.1 — pairs controllers and compatible accessories without dongles or extra adapters.
- USB-C ports at the front and USB-A ports at the rear — charging, storage, cameras and PlayStation VR2 connect directly.
- Remote Play with PlayStation Portal — stream your games to the handheld over home Wi-Fi while the TV is busy.
- Measures 388 x 216 x 89mm and weighs about 3.1kg — slightly longer than the Slim, set up flat or upright.
