Mortal Kombat 1 is in stock at Mascom International for KSh 4,800 as a PS5 physical disc, brand new and sealed in the publisher's shrink-wrap. NetherRealm Studios in Chicago developed the game, and Warner Bros. Games released Mortal Kombat 1 on September 19, 2023. This copy is the standard edition, rated ESRB Mature 17+ for graphic violence. Collect it at Old Mutual Building, First Floor Room 4, Kimathi Street, Nairobi CBD. You can also order Mortal Kombat 1 for pay-on-arrival delivery to any of Kenya's 47 counties, with a 6-month Mascom International disc warranty on every copy.
Mortal Kombat 1 suits adult players who want a fighting game they can enjoy alone after work or head-to-head with a flatmate on the same couch. Students sharing a PS5 in a hostel room get a two-player game that needs nothing more than a second controller. The disc spares you downloading the whole game over a mobile data bundle, because the install comes off the Blu-ray and only updates need a connection. Gaming lounge owners in estates such as Rongai and Kasarani also keep Mortal Kombat 1 on their screens, since short rounds keep paying customers rotating through the seats.
Where many Nairobi game sellers trade opened second-hand discs with no paperwork, Mascom International sells this title factory sealed and backed by a written warranty. Buyers who ask about Mortal Kombat 1 at our counter usually want two answers: how it measures up to Tekken 8, and whether it justifies the extra KSh 500 over the older Mortal Kombat 11 disc. Both answers appear in the questions below. Call or WhatsApp +254 708 852 521 to reserve a copy, or inspect the sealed case in person at our Nairobi CBD store before you pay.
Common Questions About the Mortal Kombat 1
What is the Mortal Kombat 1 PS5 disc price in Kenya?
Mortal Kombat 1 costs KSh 4,800 at Mascom International in Nairobi CBD, brand new and sealed as a PS5 physical disc. That price covers the standard edition disc, the 6-month disc warranty described further down, and pay-on-arrival delivery, so you hand over cash or M-Pesa only once the parcel reaches you. Mortal Kombat 1 sits KSh 500 above the KSh 4,300 Mortal Kombat 11 disc on the same shelf. The gap buys the newer 2023 game, its Kameo partner mechanic and a rebooted timeline.
Mortal Kombat 1 vs Tekken 8, which fighting game should you buy?
Mortal Kombat 1 suits players who want a cinematic story and gory finishers, while Tekken 8 suits those who want a larger 3D roster. Mortal Kombat 1 launched in September 2023 with 23 playable fighters, and Tekken 8 followed in January 2024 with 32. Mortal Kombat 1 fights on a 2D plane and adds Kameo assists. Tekken 8 lets you sidestep around the arena and uses its Heat system for comebacks. Pick Mortal Kombat 1 for Fatalities and story, and Tekken 8 for movement-heavy competitive play.
Why choose Mortal Kombat 1 over Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate for KSh 500 more?
Choose Mortal Kombat 1 if you want the current entry in the series rather than the bigger back catalogue. The older KSh 4,300 disc packs 37 fighters, while Mortal Kombat 1 restarts the timeline at KSh 4,800 and adds Kameo assists that Mortal Kombat 11 never had. NetherRealm's seasonal Invasions content and newer online activity centre on Mortal Kombat 1. If your main goal is the widest roster for couch matches on a tight budget, the cheaper disc remains a sensible choice.
How does the Kameo system in Mortal Kombat 1 work?
Every Mortal Kombat 1 match pairs your main fighter with a Kameo partner, a separate support character you call in with a dedicated button. Kameo partners come from over 30 years of series history and add offensive and support special moves, unique throws, defensive breakers, Fatal Blows and Fatalities. You choose the pairing before each match, so one main fighter plays differently with each partner. Beginners lean on Kameo assists to cover gaps in a combo, while experienced players build longer strings around them.
Will the Mortal Kombat 1 disc play on a PS4 or a PS5 Digital Edition?
No PS4 version of Mortal Kombat 1 exists, so this disc will not load on any PS4. A PS5 Digital Edition has no disc drive and cannot read the Blu-ray either. Owners of the PS5 Slim Digital Edition, or of a PS5 Pro, can add the detachable Disc Drive sold separately and then play this copy normally. The standard PS5 and the disc-version PS5 Slim run Mortal Kombat 1 straight away. Send your console model on WhatsApp if you are unsure which one you own.
How does Mortal Kombat 1 cope with slow internet and power cuts in Kenya?
Mortal Kombat 1 installs from the Blu-ray, so the bulk of the game never has to come over a Safaricom or Airtel data bundle. Expect an update download on first launch, which runs best on a home fibre line such as Safaricom Home Fibre or Zuku. Story chapters and local versus play without a connection once that update is installed. A sudden KPLC outage can cut a fight short or interrupt an install, so a UPS between the socket and the console protects your progress.
Can two people play Mortal Kombat 1 on one PS5, and is PlayStation Plus needed?
Yes, two people can fight each other in Mortal Kombat 1 on one PS5 with two controllers, and no subscription is required for that. Local versus works fully offline, which makes it a common pick for weekend sessions at home. Online ranked play in Kombat League and casual online matches require an active PlayStation Plus membership. The second PS5 DualSense Controller is sold separately, and Mascom International keeps them on the same shelf as the disc.
Who should buy Mortal Kombat 1, and who should skip it?
Mortal Kombat 1 is for adults who enjoy one-on-one fighting games, cinematic stories and the series' trademark finishing moves. Its ESRB Mature 17+ rating reflects graphic blood and dismemberment, so it does not suit households with younger children. Parents shopping for under-13s get better value from Minecraft or LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga, both stocked at Mascom International. Players who mostly want the widest roster for the lowest outlay should take the KSh 4,300 Mortal Kombat 11 disc instead.
Technical Specifications
Fighter Roster and Kameo Partners
- 23 playable fighters on the launch roster, including Liu Kang, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Kitana and Johnny Cage, so familiar names lead the cast.
- Newer characters such as Nitara stand beside returning favourites, each given an original backstory to fit the rebooted universe.
- The launch count of 23 includes Shang Tsung, a pre-order bonus at release that later buyers add separately.
- A separate Kameo roster draws support characters from over 30 years of the series, widening team choices beyond the main cast.
- Kameo partners add special moves, unique throws, defensive breakers, Fatal Blows and Fatalities, so each pairing changes how a fighter plays.
- Kombat Pack fighters such as Omni-Man, Homelander, Peacemaker, Quan Chi, Ermac and Takeda are paid add-ons, not part of this standard disc.
Modes for Solo and Versus Play
- Story mode runs a cinematic campaign in a universe reborn by Fire God Liu Kang, with new relationships between familiar characters.
- Invasions is a progression-based single-player mode on an interactive map, with character builds, challenges and rewards to collect.
- Invasions follows a themed six-week seasonal schedule, giving returning players new map challenges long after the story credits roll.
- Arcade-style Towers offer quick solo ladders against computer opponents, useful for learning one fighter's moves in short sessions.
- Kombat League provides ranked online matches against other players, which needs an active PlayStation Plus membership on your PS5.
- Local versus supports two players on one console with two controllers, and it needs no internet connection or subscription.
Platform Compatibility and Online Requirements
- Released for PS5 only on PlayStation hardware, with no PS4 version, so this disc needs a PS5 to run.
- Plays on the standard PS5 and disc-version PS5 Slim, or on Digital Edition and Pro models fitted with the detachable Disc Drive.
- PS5 games are region-free, so a UK or US print of this disc plays on a console bought in Kenya.
- The game installs from the Blu-ray onto the console's SSD, so check free storage space before inserting the disc.
- An update downloads on first launch, so connect the console to Wi-Fi or a LAN cable before your first session.
- Also released for Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC, though this particular copy works only on a PS5.
Disc Format and Physical Case
- One PS5 Blu-ray disc in the standard blue PS5 case, carrying the full standard edition game data.
- The disc must sit in the drive whenever you play, because PlayStation uses it to confirm ownership of the installed game.
- A physical copy can be lent to a friend or resold later, which a digital PlayStation Store licence does not allow.
- Factory shrink-wrap stays intact until you open it, so you can check the seal before paying on delivery.
- Keep the disc in its case between sessions, since surface scratches are the most common cause of read errors on any Blu-ray.
- Cover art and ESRB rating labels are printed on the case, so buyers and parents can confirm the edition at a glance.
Rating, Release and Publisher Details
- Developed by NetherRealm Studios in Chicago, the same studio behind Mortal Kombat 11 and the Injustice fighting games.
- Published by Warner Bros. Games, which handles the game's retail editions, add-on content and seasonal online support.
- Released worldwide on September 19, 2023, so this is an established title with years of balance patches already applied.
- Rated ESRB Mature 17+ for graphic violence, blood and gore, which places it outside the range for younger players.
- The Standard Edition launched at a US list price of $69.99, while the pricier launch bundle cost $109.99.
- That $109.99 bundle added the Kombat Pack and 1,250 Dragon Krystals, neither of which comes with this standard disc.
