The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is available at Mascom International for KSh 7,500, brand new and sealed, as the physical Nintendo Switch game cartridge. Developed and published by Nintendo and first released on 3 March 2017, it is a single-player, open-world action-adventure that drops you into a ruined Hyrule with almost no instructions. You climb, glide, cook and fight your way toward Calamity Ganon in any order you choose. We stock The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild at our store in the Old Mutual Building, First Floor Room 4, Kimathi Street, Nairobi CBD, where you can inspect the seal before paying.
Designed for players who want one long game rather than many short ones, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild suits university students, young professionals and parents buying for teenagers. Many Kenyan Switch owners end up with a shelf of quick party games that run out of depth within a month. This cartridge answers that with four Divine Beasts to free, many shrine puzzles and a map you can wander for months. Because it plays fully in handheld mode, it keeps you busy during a KPLC power cut or on a long matatu ride from Rongai into town.
Where some Nairobi game stalls sell opened cartridges at near-new prices, Mascom International sells The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in its factory seal, with a receipt and a 6-month cartridge warranty. Customers across Nairobi tell us they buy it as a birthday or Christmas gift because one cartridge can fill a whole school holiday. A physical copy also keeps resale value, which a digital download never does. Visit us Monday through Saturday, 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM, pay by M-Pesa or cash, or order The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for pay-on-arrival delivery to any of the 47 counties.
Common Questions About the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
How much is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for Nintendo Switch in Kenya?
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild costs KSh 7,500 brand new and sealed at Mascom International in Nairobi CBD. That price covers the physical cartridge in its retail case, a 6-month warranty against a cartridge that will not read, and pay-on-arrival delivery across Kenya. It sits at the same price as Kirby and the Forgotten Land and KSh 1,000 below Pokémon Legends: Arceus on our shelves. You can pay through M-Pesa or cash in store, or settle on delivery.
Does The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild work on Switch Lite, Switch OLED and Nintendo Switch 2?
Yes, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild plays on the original Nintendo Switch, the Switch OLED and the Switch Lite. The Lite runs it in handheld mode, since that console does not connect to a TV. On Nintendo Switch 2, this original Switch cartridge runs through backward compatibility. Nintendo also sells a separate Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrade with improved resolution, higher framerate and HDR. That upgrade is a paid eShop purchase or comes with Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, and it is not part of this cartridge.
Is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild good for power cuts and commutes in Kenya?
Yes, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild runs fully in handheld mode, so a KPLC outage does not end your session. The main adventure needs no internet connection; data is only for optional updates and paid expansions. That makes it a dependable companion on matatu trips, overnight buses to Mombasa or Kisumu, and evenings when the lights go off in Kahawa or Ruaka. Shrines are short puzzle rooms, so you can clear one during a commute and pick up the next one later.
How does The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild compare with Kirby and the Forgotten Land?
Both cost KSh 7,500 at Mascom International, but The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is a vast open world for one player, while Kirby and the Forgotten Land is a gentler 3D platformer built from separate stages. This Hyrule adventure asks you to plan, cook, manage weapons that break and solve physics puzzles with little guidance. Kirby is easier to pick up and lets a second player join in co-op. Choose the Hyrule game for teenagers and adults who enjoy freedom; choose Kirby for young children or families.
Is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild still worth buying in Kenya in 2026?
Yes, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild remains one of the most complete single-player games on Nintendo Switch, and the physical copy holds its value. Its world, puzzles and combat do not depend on online servers, so nothing switches off with time. Owners who later move to Nintendo Switch 2 can keep playing the same cartridge. At KSh 7,500, it works out cheaper per hour than most short games, since one copy can keep a player busy for months.
Who should buy The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and who should skip it?
Buy The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild if you enjoy exploring, solving puzzles and setting your own goals, whether you live in a Kenyatta University hostel or play after work in Kilimani. Skip it if you want a game the whole family plays at once, because it is single-player only; Mario Kart 8 Deluxe at KSh 7,000 suits groups better. Younger children may struggle with breakable weapons and open-ended goals, and Kirby and the Forgotten Land is the easier pick for them.
Does The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild include the DLC or work with amiibo?
The cartridge holds the full base game of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, while the Expansion Pass is sold separately on the Nintendo eShop. That pass adds The Master Trials, with Master Mode and new trials, and The Champions' Ballad, with a new dungeon, extra story and the Master Cycle Zero motorbike. Downloading it needs a Nintendo Account and a Wi-Fi or Safaricom data connection. amiibo figures also work: scanning one summons items, Epona or Wolf Link, though no figure comes in the case.
Can I play The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in languages other than English?
Yes, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild offers voice-over and subtitles in English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian and Spanish, plus Dutch text. A 2018 update added Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese and Korean text. Since a May 2017 update, you can also mix voice and subtitle languages, such as Japanese voices with English text. Students taking French or German at Strathmore or USIU often use this to practise reading while they play, and families from other countries living in Nairobi appreciate the choice.
Technical Specifications
Gameplay and Core Function
- Genre: open-world action-adventure, so you travel almost anywhere on the map early and choose your own route to the final battle.
- Developer and publisher: Nintendo EPD and Nintendo, the in-house team behind the main series, not a licensed spin-off studio.
- Release date: 3 March 2017, as a Nintendo Switch launch title, so years of patches have left the game stable and complete.
- Players: single-player only, meaning one person controls Link, though friends can watch on a TV and help crack puzzles.
- Four Divine Beasts: giant machine dungeons spread across Hyrule's regions, and freeing each one gives Link a new special ability.
- Shrines: short puzzle and combat rooms, and clearing them earns Spirit Orbs that you trade for extra hearts or stamina.
- Core systems: climbing, gliding, cooking and breakable weapons, so you gather, cook and swap gear instead of grinding levels.
Console Compatibility
- Nintendo Switch (original model): plays in TV mode through the dock, tabletop mode on the kickstand, or handheld with Joy-Con attached.
- Switch OLED: the same three modes, with the 7-inch OLED screen giving deeper blacks when you play away from the TV.
- Switch Lite: handheld mode only, because the Lite has no TV output, yet the full game remains playable from start to finish.
- Nintendo Switch 2: this original Switch cartridge runs through backward compatibility, which Nintendo built into the new console for Switch games.
- Switch 2 Edition upgrade: sold separately, adding improved resolution, higher framerate, HDR and Zelda Notes through the Nintendo Switch Online app.
- Region: Switch games are region-free, so this cartridge plays on consoles bought in Kenya, Dubai, the UK or the US.
- amiibo support: scan compatible figures to summon items, Epona or Wolf Link; the figures themselves are sold separately.
Cartridge Build and Storage
- Format: Nintendo Switch game card, a small flash cartridge that slots into the top of the console, with no disc to scratch.
- Full base game on the cartridge: you can start playing straight from the case with no download and no data bundle.
- Save data lives in the console's system memory, not on the cartridge, so lending the game to a friend keeps your progress safe.
- Optional updates install to the console's memory or microSD card over home Wi-Fi or an Airtel or Safaricom hotspot.
- Retail case: a hard plastic Nintendo Switch case that protects the cartridge from dust, scratches and loss between sessions.
- Resale value: a physical cartridge can be sold or traded later, which an eShop download tied to one account cannot.
Inclusions and Language
- In the case: one game cartridge in its sealed retail case with the original cover art, nothing added or removed.
- Expansion Pass not included: The Master Trials and The Champions' Ballad are paid downloads bought separately on the eShop.
- Voice-over and subtitles in English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian and Spanish, plus Dutch text for menus and dialogue.
- Text in Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese and Korean, added through a free 2018 update that downloads with an internet connection.
- Mixed language settings: since a May 2017 update you can pair one language for voices with another for subtitles.
- No online play: the game runs offline, and Nintendo Switch Online only matters if you take the Switch 2 Edition upgrade route.
Package Contents
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild comes as one Nintendo Switch game cartridge inside its sealed retail case with the original cover art. Nintendo Switch game cases usually carry no printed manual, since the game teaches its controls on screen. No amiibo figure, Expansion Pass code or Switch 2 Edition upgrade is included; those are sold separately. The seal stays intact until you open it, so you can check it at our Kimathi Street counter or at your door before you pay.
Warranty
Mascom International backs The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild with a 6-month warranty covering a faulty cartridge that will not read on a working Nintendo Switch console. Bring the cartridge, its case and your receipt, and claims are handled at our Nairobi CBD service desk.
