Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 7 Keyboard is now in stock at Mascom International for KSh 9,000, supplied as a genuine Lenovo replacement part. Every unit is brand new and sealed, never fitted to another machine. This is the keyboard only, not the laptop. It carries the US English layout most common in Kenyan stock, LED backlighting and the red TrackPoint pointing stick. The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 7 Keyboard is available to collect from our store at Old Mutual Building, First Floor Room 4, Kimathi Street, Nairobi CBD, or by countrywide delivery.
Built for business executives, lawyers and consultants who rely on a high-end convertible, this part solves one stubborn problem. A single dead key, a sticky spacebar or a failed backlight can make an expensive machine frustrating to use. Replacing the whole laptop over a keyboard fault makes no financial sense. The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 7 Keyboard restores the original typing feel your hands already know. Executives moving between Westlands, Upper Hill and Nairobi CBD keep their familiar machine, their files and their settings, with typing that works properly again. Students and lecturers at Strathmore and USIU can fit the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 7 Keyboard and keep their coursework machine running.
Unlike other electronics retailers in Kenya that mix copy parts into their stock, Mascom International sells this as a genuine Lenovo component. Cheap aftermarket keyboards often arrive with uneven backlight, loose keycaps or slightly wrong key spacing. The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 7 Keyboard avoids those risks because it matches the factory part. Customers across Nairobi tell us they confirm fit on WhatsApp first, then order with confidence. Send us a photo of the label under your laptop, and our team checks compatibility before you pay anything on arrival.
Common Questions About the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 7 Keyboard
Will the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 7 Keyboard fit my laptop?
It fits the ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 7, the 14-inch convertible Lenovo released in 2022. Check the label on the underside of your laptop, which names the exact model. Do not assume it fits the X1 Yoga Gen 6, Gen 8 or the X1 Carbon, because those machines use different keyboard parts. The safest step is simple. Send a clear photo of that underside label to +254 708 852 521 on WhatsApp, and Mascom International confirms the match before dispatch. That quick check saves you a wasted trip and a wrong part.
Is this a genuine Lenovo keyboard or a copy?
This is a genuine Lenovo replacement keyboard, brand new and sealed, sold by Mascom International in Nairobi CBD. Genuine parts matter on a ThinkPad because the keyboard connects through precise ribbon cables and mounting points. A copy can sit unevenly, flex under your fingers or leave the backlight dim on some keys. Buying a genuine Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 7 Keyboard means the key spacing, legends and backlight match what left the factory originally. You also avoid the early key failures that send many buyers back for a second replacement.
Does the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 7 Keyboard have backlighting and which layout is it?
Yes, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 7 Keyboard has LED backlighting and comes in the US English layout. Lenovo specified a backlit keyboard for this model, so your function-key brightness control keeps working after fitting. The US layout has a wide Enter key and the at-sign above the number 2. If your original keyboard used a UK layout with a tall Enter key, mention it on WhatsApp so we confirm current stock first. Most X1 Yoga Gen 7 units sold in Kenya use the US layout.
Can I fit the X1 Yoga Gen 7 keyboard myself, or do I need a technician?
A qualified technician should fit it, because this keyboard installs from inside the laptop base. Replacement normally involves opening the bottom cover, disconnecting the battery and working around internal cables and boards. Experienced repairers handle this routinely, but a slipped screwdriver can damage a ribbon connector. If you lack laptop repair experience, take the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 7 Keyboard to a trusted technician. Mascom International can advise you on fitting when you collect. Keep all the original screws together, because the new keyboard reuses them.
Why replace the keyboard instead of using an external keyboard?
Replacing the built-in keyboard keeps your X1 Yoga Gen 7 fully portable, which an external keyboard cannot do. A plug-in keyboard like a Logitech model works at a desk, but you lose it the moment you flip into tent or laptop mode. Carrying a second keyboard also defeats the point of a slim convertible. A genuine replacement at KSh 9,000 restores the laptop to the complete machine you originally paid for, ready for meetings, flights and client visits anywhere.
How does the keyboard cope with spills, dust and humidity in Kenya?
Lenovo designed the X1 Yoga Gen 7 keyboard as spill-resistant, which helps it survive a knocked-over cup of chai at your desk. That design guides small amounts of liquid away from the most sensitive parts beneath the keys. It does not make the laptop waterproof, so switch it off and dry it immediately after any spill. Owners commuting along dusty Thika Road should also clean between the keys regularly with a soft brush. Coastal users in Mombasa should store the laptop in a dry bag during humid months.
Is KSh 9,000 a fair price for this keyboard in Kenya?
KSh 9,000 is fair for a genuine, brand new Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 7 Keyboard sold with a warranty. Spread across a full year of daily use, it works out to roughly KSh 25 per day. Compare that with replacing a top-tier 14-inch convertible over one faulty part, which costs many times more. Cheaper copy keyboards exist, but they often fail early or fit poorly. Paying once for the genuine part usually costs less than buying twice, and you keep a warranty behind it.
Is the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 7 Keyboard the right part for you, or should you look elsewhere?
Buy the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 7 Keyboard if your X1 Yoga Gen 7 has dead keys, liquid damage or failed backlighting. It suits professionals who want their existing convertible working properly without a costly upgrade. Skip it if you own the smaller 13-inch X13 Yoga Gen 4, which needs its own keyboard. Mascom International stocks that model separately. Skip it too if your problem is the touchpad, which is a separate part. Tell us the fault first, and we point you to the right component.

- Unified Communications keys handle answering and ending Microsoft Teams or Zoom calls without opening any app.
- The red TrackPoint pointing stick sits between the G, H and B keys for precise cursor control.

- Full-size keys on the 14-inch chassis leave room for comfortable touch typing during long working sessions.
Backlight and Visibility
- LED backlighting illuminates every key legend, helping you type accurately in dim meeting rooms and evening flights.
- Brightness steps adjust through the function keys, so the original backlight shortcut keeps working after replacement.
- Clear printed legends on new keycaps replace worn, faded letters common on heavily used business laptops.
- Even illumination across all keys avoids the patchy glow often seen on low-cost aftermarket replacement keyboards.
- Backlight can be switched off entirely to save battery power during long days away from a charger.
- Useful during KPLC power cuts, when a dim room still lets you finish urgent work on battery.
Layout and Language
- US English layout with a wide, single-row Enter key, the most common configuration stocked in Kenya.
- The at-sign sits above the number 2, matching most Kenyan laptops and office desktop keyboards.
- Dedicated keys for Print Screen, Home, End and Page navigation speed up spreadsheet and document work.
- Function and Control keys keep Lenovo's familiar positions, with a swap option in BIOS or Lenovo Vantage.
- Key legends match Windows defaults exactly, so no extra keyboard driver or language pack is needed.
Compatibility and Fitting
- Designed for the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 7, the 14-inch convertible released by Lenovo in 2022.
- Not intended for the X1 Yoga Gen 6, X1 Yoga Gen 8 or any X1 Carbon generation.
- Confirm your model from the underside label before ordering, since similar-looking ThinkPads use different keyboard parts.
- Installation happens from inside the laptop base, so a qualified technician gives you the safest result.
- Connects through the same internal ribbon connections as the original part, with no software setup afterwards.
- Works with every Windows version shipped on this model, recognised automatically as soon as the laptop powers on.
Build and Durability
- Spill-resistant design guides small amounts of liquid away from sensitive parts beneath the keys during accidents.
- Genuine Lenovo construction matches factory fit, so keycaps sit level with the surrounding palm rest surface.
- Firm key support keeps flex low, important on a convertible you carry between offices every working day.
- Black keycaps match the original finish of the X1 Yoga Gen 7, so the replacement looks original once fitted.
- Sealed, brand new condition means no previous wear, no hidden liquid damage and no replaced keycaps.
