Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga 2nd Gen Keyboard in the Canadian French bilingual layout is now in stock at Mascom International for KSh 10,000. This is an original Lenovo replacement keyboard, brand new and sealed, sold as the keyboard alone without a laptop or palm rest. It suits the 2017 X1 Yoga convertible, machine types 20JD, 20JE, 20JF and 20JG, with backlit keys and French and English legends. Collect the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga 2nd Gen Keyboard at Old Mutual Building, First Floor Room 4, Kimathi Street, Nairobi CBD, or order it for countrywide delivery.
A worn or dead keyboard turns a capable 14-inch convertible into a machine that needs an external keyboard on every desk. The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga 2nd Gen Keyboard fixes that for owners who bought their laptop with Canadian French keys and want the same legends back. Diplomats and UN staff around Gigiri, translators, Alliance Française teachers and francophone students from the Great Lakes region type accented French daily. For them, keys marked Échap, Début, Fin, ImpEc and AltCar match what their fingers already expect. Accountants and lawyers filing bilingual documents gain the same comfort, with no sticker sets or remapping tricks needed.
Where most Nairobi electronics shops offer US keyboards alone, buyers with Canadian laptops end up relearning a layout or living with mismatched keys. Mascom International sources the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga 2nd Gen Keyboard in its original bilingual form, which is why it costs more than our UK and US versions at KSh 8,000. Customers across Nairobi tell us a matching layout is the difference between a repair and a compromise. Send your machine type on WhatsApp before ordering, and we confirm the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga 2nd Gen Keyboard matches your unit.
Common Questions About the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga 2nd Gen Keyboard
Will this Canadian French keyboard fit my ThinkPad X1 Yoga 2nd Gen?
This keyboard is made for the ThinkPad X1 Yoga 2nd Gen, the 2017 model sold under machine types 20JD, 20JE, 20JF and 20JG. Check the label under your laptop, where the type appears as the first four characters after the word Type. Send a photo of that label to Mascom International on WhatsApp and we confirm the match before you pay. If your label shows a different type, this is the wrong part, so ask us which keyboard fits instead.
How is the Canadian French layout different from a standard US keyboard?
The Canadian French layout, also called the CSA bilingual layout, prints French and English legends on the same keys. Escape reads Échap, Home reads Début, End reads Fin, Print Screen reads ImpEc, and the right Alt key becomes AltCar for accented characters. It also uses a taller Enter key and an extra key beside the left Shift. A US keyboard has none of these, with a wide single-row Enter key and English labels only.
Who should buy the Canadian French version, and who should choose another layout?
Buy this keyboard if your X1 Yoga 2nd Gen came with Canadian French keys or you type French accents every day. Francophone professionals, translators and students in Kenya reach é, è, à and ç straight from the keyboard without memorising Alt codes. Skip it if you only type English, because Mascom International stocks the X1 Yoga Gen 2 and Gen 3 keyboard in UK and US layouts for KSh 8,000. Those suit most Kenyan users and cost KSh 2,000 less.
Is the ThinkPad X1 Yoga 2nd Gen Canadian French keyboard backlit?
Yes, this ThinkPad X1 Yoga 2nd Gen keyboard has a white LED backlight under the keys. Press Fn and Space together to step through the brightness settings or switch the light off. That matters during evening work, late lectures, or a blackout when the room goes dark but your battery keeps running. The backlight draws power from the laptop, so turning it off on long trips stretches your battery a little further.
Why does the Canadian French keyboard cost more than the UK or US versions?
The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga 2nd Gen Keyboard in Canadian French costs KSh 10,000 because this layout reaches Kenya in much smaller numbers than English layouts. Mascom International prices the UK and US versions at KSh 8,000 since they move in larger volumes. The extra KSh 2,000 buys the exact bilingual legends your laptop shipped with. For a French typist, that avoids the frustration of retraining your fingers or keeping an external keyboard on your desk.
Is this the same part as the ThinkPad X1 Yoga 3rd Gen Canadian French keyboard?
Mascom International lists the Canadian French keyboard for the 2nd Gen and 3rd Gen X1 Yoga as separate products, so order the one matching your laptop. The 3rd Gen arrived in 2018 under machine types 20LD, 20LE, 20LF and 20LG, while this keyboard serves the 2017 machines. Your bottom label settles the question in seconds. If your office runs both generations, send every label on WhatsApp and we match each laptop to its correct keyboard.
How do I keep a new X1 Yoga keyboard working in Nairobi dust and heat?
Wipe the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga 2nd Gen Keyboard weekly with a dry microfibre cloth, because fine dust from roads like Mombasa Road settles between keys. Close the laptop fully before it goes into a bag for a matatu ride, so grit and crumbs stay out. Keep drinks away from the keyboard edge, since liquid damage is the most common way keyboards fail. A short burst of compressed air every few months clears dust from under the keycaps.
Can I fit this keyboard myself, or do I need a technician?
Fitting this keyboard means working inside the base of the X1 Yoga 2nd Gen, because Lenovo secures it from underneath rather than clipping it in from the top. The bottom cover comes off first, then internal parts are lifted before the old keyboard frees. A technician with ThinkPad experience handles this safely. If you are confident with tiny screws and ribbon cables, Lenovo's hardware maintenance manual for this model walks through each step in order.
Is this a genuine Lenovo keyboard or an aftermarket copy?
This Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga 2nd Gen Keyboard is an original Lenovo part, not an aftermarket copy built to look similar. Genuine keyboards keep the factory key feel, legend print quality and backlight brightness your laptop had when new. Copies often show faded legends within months, uneven lighting, or a ribbon cable that sits loosely in the socket. Mascom International lets you inspect the keyboard at our Kimathi Street store before paying, so you see the quality yourself.
Technical Specifications
Keyboard Type and Core Function
- Genuine Lenovo keyboard built for the ThinkPad X1 Yoga 2nd Gen, restoring factory typing feel instead of a generic copy.
- Supplied as the keyboard unit alone, so your existing palm rest, touchpad and laptop body stay in place.
- Replaces keys that stick, fail, or have worn legends, bringing a tired convertible back into daily service.
- Connects to the system board through its original ribbon cable, so no adapters or extra software are required.
- Works as soon as it is fitted, because Windows recognises the internal keyboard without any driver download.
- Black keycaps suit the black X1 Yoga finish, while owners of silver units should confirm the match first.
Canadian French Bilingual Legends
- Escape reads Échap, so the French and English names appear together where your finger expects them.
- Home and End carry Début and Fin, keeping document navigation familiar for French-first typists.
- Print Screen reads ImpEc, and the right Alt key is marked AltCar for reaching accented and extra characters.
- Accented letters such as é, è, à and ç appear on the keys, removing the need for Alt codes.
- A tall two-row Enter key and an extra key beside left Shift follow the ISO-style CSA arrangement.
- Set Windows to the Canadian Multilingual Standard input so every printed legend types the character shown.
Compatibility and Machine Types
- Made for the ThinkPad X1 Yoga 2nd Gen, Lenovo's 2017 14-inch convertible with a fold-back hinge.
- Matches machine types 20JD, 20JE, 20JF and 20JG, printed on the label under the laptop.
- This generation shipped with 7th Gen Intel Core processors, a quick way to identify it in Windows Settings.
- Not intended for the first-generation X1 Yoga or the 2019 and later generations, which use different keyboard parts.
- A separate Canadian French keyboard for 3rd Gen machines, types 20LD to 20LG, is stocked by Mascom International.
- Send a clear photo of your bottom label on WhatsApp and we confirm fit before you pay anything.
Backlight and Typing Feel
- A white LED backlight sits under the keys, keeping legends readable in dim rooms and on evening flights.
- Fn plus Space switches the light between brightness settings and off, without opening any software.
- Classic ThinkPad sculpted keycaps give firm, accurate feedback during long sessions of reports and email.
- The red TrackPoint sits between G, H and B, so cursor control stays on the home row.
- Switching the light off when running unplugged trims battery drain during long days away from a socket.
Build and Fitting
- Fitted from inside the base, so the bottom cover and some internal parts come out before removal.
- Original Lenovo construction sits flush with the palm rest, leaving no raised edges where dust can collect.
- The ribbon connector matches the factory socket, so there is no soldering or cable modification involved.
- A technician with ThinkPad experience usually completes the job in one visit using precision screwdrivers.
- Lenovo's hardware maintenance manual for this model documents each removal step for confident self-fitters.
