The HP EliteBook 840 G6 is available at Mascom International for KSh 40,000, fitted with an Intel Core i5 8th Gen processor, 16GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD. This unit is factory refurbished by HP: inspected, tested and packed back into an HP box before sale, so it reaches you boxed rather than loose. The HP EliteBook 840 G6 pairs a 14-inch Full HD screen with a slim aluminium body made for daily office use. You can switch it on and test it at our showroom on the first floor of Old Mutual Building, Kimathi Street, Nairobi CBD.
Built for accountants, university students, sales teams and NGO field staff across Kenya, the HP EliteBook 840 G6 handles email, spreadsheets, Zoom calls, KRA iTax returns and a long row of browser tabs. The usual problem at this price is a tired machine with 8GB of RAM that freezes once Chrome and Excel run together. Here, 16GB keeps a full day of apps open at once, and the solid-state drive starts Windows quickly. At 1.48 kg it is light enough for a daily matatu ride from Rongai to Upper Hill in a backpack.
Unlike other electronics retailers in Kenya that sell ex-office machines with unknown histories, Mascom International stocks the HP EliteBook 840 G6 as HP-refurbished stock with a 12-month warranty. Customers across Nairobi tell us the boxed condition and the full year of cover are what made them choose a refurbished business model over a cheaper consumer one. Buyers throughout Kenya report that the 16GB of RAM is the difference they notice first. Visit us on Kimathi Street to test the HP EliteBook 840 G6, or order on WhatsApp and pay when it arrives.
Common Questions About the HP EliteBook 840 G6
How much is the HP EliteBook 840 G6 i5 16GB 256GB in Kenya?
The HP EliteBook 840 G6 with an Intel Core i5 8th Gen, 16GB RAM and 256GB SSD costs KSh 40,000 at Mascom International in Nairobi, refurbished by HP and boxed. That price includes the HP power adapter and cord, a 12-month warranty and pay-on-arrival delivery to all 47 counties. If you want a current-generation processor, the HP EliteBook 840 G11 with a Core Ultra 7 sits at KSh 93,000 in the same store, which is KSh 53,000 more.
Is the HP EliteBook 840 G6 new, used or refurbished?
The HP EliteBook 840 G6 at Mascom International is factory refurbished by HP, not simply used. HP inspected and tested each unit, then repacked it in an HP box with its power adapter and cord. A used laptop, by contrast, is sold as it left an office, with no check by the maker. Battery health and small finish details can still differ from one unit to the next, so confirm the exact unit on WhatsApp before you pay.
How does the HP EliteBook 840 G6 compare with the HP EliteBook 840 G11?
The HP EliteBook 840 G6 costs KSh 40,000 and the HP EliteBook 840 G11 costs KSh 93,000 at Mascom International. The G11 brings a Core Ultra 7 155U with a built-in AI engine, double the storage at 512GB, faster DDR5 memory and a taller 16:10 screen. Both carry 16GB RAM. Our 840 G11 stock has no built-in camera, while the G6 has one. Choose the G6 for value and office work; choose the G11 for heavier multitasking and more years of service. On a KSh 40,000 budget, the G6 is the sensible pick.
Can the HP EliteBook 840 G6 keep working through KPLC power cuts and on mobile data?
Yes, the HP EliteBook 840 G6 switches to its internal battery the moment KPLC power drops, so an outage will not close your open files. Hours on battery depend on that unit's battery health and your screen brightness, so charge fully each morning. When the office Wi-Fi goes down with the power, connect to a Safaricom or Airtel Kenya hotspot from your phone over Wi-Fi and keep working. Wipe the keyboard and vents weekly in dusty areas.
Is the HP EliteBook 840 G6 good for university students in Kenya?
The HP EliteBook 840 G6 suits students at the University of Nairobi, Kenyatta, JKUAT and Strathmore who write assignments, run Zoom lectures and research online. The 16GB of RAM lets you keep a lecture video, a Word document and twenty browser tabs open together. It runs statistics tools such as SPSS and R for coursework. Students in architecture, CAD design or video editing should skip it, since the integrated graphics are not built for 3D work. For everyone else, the full-size keyboard makes long essay nights in the hostel easier.
Can the HP EliteBook 840 G6 run Windows 11 and Microsoft Office?
The HP EliteBook 840 G6 meets Microsoft's processor requirement for Windows 11, because Intel 8th Gen chips are on the supported list. Microsoft Office, Teams, QuickBooks and Sage run on it without trouble for normal office loads. Ask our team on WhatsApp which Windows edition is installed on the unit you are buying. The fingerprint reader and webcam work with Windows Hello on units that carry them, so check those features with us before you pay.
Can I upgrade the RAM or storage in the HP EliteBook 840 G6?
The HP EliteBook 840 G6 uses DDR4 memory modules and an M.2 solid-state drive, both of which a technician can replace. Most buyers will not need more than the 16GB already fitted. The 256GB drive is the part people upgrade first, usually to 512GB or 1TB once their files grow. Our Nairobi CBD service desk can quote a storage upgrade, though work done outside Mascom International may affect your warranty, so ask before opening the case.
Who should buy the HP EliteBook 840 G6 and who should skip it?
Buy the HP EliteBook 840 G6 if you need a dependable office machine under KSh 50,000 for documents, email, spreadsheets, M-Pesa statements and video calls. Lawyers, accountants, estate agents and small business owners get the most from it. Skip it if you edit video, run large datasets or want a machine that will feel current for five or more years. Those buyers are better served by the HP EliteBook 840 G11, which we also stock.
Technical Specifications
Processor
- Intel Core i5 8th Gen processor with four cores and eight threads, enough for office work running side by side.
- Threads let the chip split work into parallel tasks, so a Zoom call and Excel can share it smoothly.
- Built as a low-power U-series chip, it keeps heat and fan noise down during long working days.
- Handles Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, QuickBooks and browser-based systems such as eCitizen without delay in normal use.
- Not designed for heavy video editing or 3D rendering; it is a business processor tuned for steady daily loads.
Memory
- 16GB of DDR4 RAM, double the 8GB found in many entry-level office laptops sold in Nairobi.
- RAM is the short-term workspace for open apps, so more of it means less freezing when switching windows.
- Keeps roughly twenty to thirty browser tabs, Outlook, Excel and a video call open together without slowing.
- Memory sits in replaceable modules, so a technician can change it rather than replacing the whole laptop.
- With 16GB fitted, Windows rarely needs to swap work onto the drive, which keeps switching between apps quick.
Storage
- 256GB solid-state drive, which has no moving parts and starts Windows and apps far faster than a hard disk.
- Holds tens of thousands of Word, Excel and PDF files, or about 60,000 phone photos at 3MB each.
- Fitted in a standard M.2 slot, so it can be upgraded to 512GB or 1TB later.
- Solid-state drives cope better with bumps on a boda boda ride than older spinning hard drives.
- Pair it with OneDrive or Google Drive to keep large archives off the laptop and backed up.
Display
- 14-inch Full HD screen at 1920 by 1080 pixels, sharp enough to read spreadsheets and contracts comfortably.
- IPS panel, a screen type that keeps colours and text clear even when viewed from the side.
- The 14-inch size fits two documents side by side while keeping the laptop bag-friendly.
- Full HD means video calls, YouTube lessons and presentations look crisp without stretching or blur.
- Lower the brightness in dim offices to stretch battery time during long meetings or power cuts.
Graphics
- Intel UHD Graphics 620, a graphics chip built into the processor rather than a separate card.
- Drives the 14-inch screen and an external monitor or projector through HDMI for boardroom presentations.
- Plays Full HD video from YouTube, Netflix and Showmax smoothly on the built-in screen.
- Suits Canva, PowerPoint and light photo touch-ups, but not 3D design or current games.
- Shared graphics draw less power, which helps the battery last through a working session.
Battery
- Internal rechargeable battery keeps the HP EliteBook 840 G6 running when mains power drops.
- Hours on battery depend on the battery health of your unit, which our team can confirm on WhatsApp.
- Charges with the HP power adapter and cord included in the box.
- Office tasks such as Word and email use far less battery than video streaming or long Zoom calls.
- Keep the adapter in your bag on days with back-to-back meetings away from your desk.
Build and Ports
- Aluminium body weighing about 1.48 kg, light for a 14-inch business machine and easy to carry daily.
- USB-C port for charging, docking and fast data transfer, plus two full-size USB-A ports for flash drives.
- HDMI port connects straight to monitors, TVs and projectors without an adapter.
- Headphone and microphone jack for wired headsets on calls in noisy open-plan offices.
- Built-in webcam and Wi-Fi with Bluetooth for video meetings, wireless mice and earbuds.
