Mascom International stocks the Porodo Soundtec OWS Earbuds at KSh 3,900, brand new and sealed, in black. OWS stands for open wearable stereo: the speakers sit just outside your ear canal instead of plugging into it. The Porodo Soundtec OWS Earbuds come with a 350mAh charging case and a remote control function, so you can manage your audio without reaching for your phone. Soundtec is the audio line from Porodo, and these earbuds pair over Bluetooth with iPhones, Android phones, tablets and laptops alike. You can try them on and pair them with your own phone at our store in the Old Mutual Building on Kimathi Street, Nairobi CBD.
Designed for people who need to hear the world around them, the Porodo Soundtec OWS Earbuds suit walkers, runners, receptionists, estate agents and anyone working in an open-plan office in Upper Hill or Westlands. Sealed in-ear buds block out car horns, colleagues and announcements, which can be unsafe on a busy Nairobi street and awkward at a front desk. The Porodo Soundtec OWS Earbuds keep the ear canal open, so you follow a podcast and still hear the matatu tout, the boss or the doorbell. Nothing presses inside the ear during long days.
Unlike other electronics retailers in Kenya that stock mainly in-ear earbuds, Mascom International carries open-ear options for buyers who find sealed buds uncomfortable or isolating. Customers across Nairobi tell us their ears feel less tired after a full day with an open-ear pair. At Mascom International, we're seeing more runners and office workers ask for the Porodo Soundtec OWS Earbuds by name. Visit the shop to test the fit, or order on WhatsApp and pay on arrival anywhere in the country.
Common Questions About the Porodo Soundtec OWS Earbuds
How much are the Porodo Soundtec OWS Earbuds in Kenya?
The Porodo Soundtec OWS Earbuds cost KSh 3,900 at Mascom International in Nairobi CBD, brand new and sealed in black. That price includes both earbuds, the 350mAh charging case and a 12-month warranty against manufacturing defects. You can pay on arrival when your order is delivered. Nairobi and its environs get same-day delivery, and other major towns get delivery within 1 business day, so you can be listening by tomorrow in most of the country.
What are open-ear OWS earbuds, and how are they different from normal earbuds?
Open-ear OWS earbuds, like the Porodo Soundtec OWS Earbuds, play sound from just outside the ear canal instead of sealing it. Normal in-ear earbuds use silicone tips that plug the ear and block outside noise. With an open-ear pair, you still hear voices, traffic and alerts around you. The trade-off is lighter bass and some sound leakage at high volume, because there is no seal to trap low notes or keep sound in.
Are the Porodo Soundtec OWS Earbuds safe for walking and running in Nairobi traffic?
The Porodo Soundtec OWS Earbuds are a safer choice than sealed earbuds for walking and jogging near roads, because your ears stay open to horns and engines. On Ngong Road, Thika Road or a Karura Forest trail, you still hear a boda boda coming up behind you. Keep the volume moderate so outside sound stays clear. Anyone riding a motorbike or driving should still follow traffic rules on earphone use and keep full attention on the road.
Porodo Soundtec OWS Earbuds or in-ear earbuds: which should I buy?
Choose the Porodo Soundtec OWS Earbuds if comfort and awareness matter most, and choose in-ear earbuds if you want deep bass and quiet. In-ear buds seal the ear, block matatu engine noise and suit long rides or noisy offices. The open-ear design leaves the ear free, causes less pressure over long hours and keeps you aware of your surroundings. Heavy bass lovers and frequent flyers will be happier with sealed, noise-cancelling in-ear buds.
What does the remote control function on the Porodo Soundtec OWS Earbuds do?
The remote control function on the Porodo Soundtec OWS Earbuds lets you manage your audio from the earbuds instead of the phone. That means your phone can stay in a bag, a jacket or a desk drawer while you listen. This helps when your hands are busy, when you are on a crowded street and prefer not to take out your phone, or when you are running. Ask our team on WhatsApp to demonstrate the controls before you buy.
Do the Porodo Soundtec OWS Earbuds work with iPhone and Android phones?
Yes, the Porodo Soundtec OWS Earbuds connect over Bluetooth to iPhone, Samsung, Tecno, Infinix, Oppo, Redmi and other Android phones. They also pair with tablets and laptops that have Bluetooth. You pair them once from the phone's Bluetooth settings menu, the same way as any wireless earbuds. Any app that plays sound through Bluetooth works with them, including Spotify, YouTube, Boomplay, Audiomack and the radio streams of Kenyan stations.
How long does the battery last on the Porodo Soundtec OWS Earbuds?
The Porodo Soundtec OWS Earbuds come with a 350mAh charging case that refills the earbuds each time you dock them. Your listening time per charge depends on volume, since louder playback drains any earbuds faster. Through a workday, the case carries spare power, so short breaks in the case keep the buds going. When KPLC cuts power, the case recharges from a power bank as well as from a standard USB phone charger.
Who should buy the Porodo Soundtec OWS Earbuds, and who should skip them?
The Porodo Soundtec OWS Earbuds suit runners, walkers, receptionists, office workers and anyone who finds in-ear tips uncomfortable. They are not for people who want silence on a noisy matatu, deep bass for music, or privacy in a quiet library, since open-ear audio leaks at high volume. Those buyers are better served by sealed in-ear earbuds with active noise cancellation. Students who study in shared hostels at Kenyatta or JKUAT should weigh that leakage too.
