Yes, pigment ink holds its colour far better than dye ink on ordinary office paper. Most errors come from a cartridge not fully seated or dirty contacts. Remove the cartridge, wipe the copper contacts with a dry lint-free cloth, and push it back until it clicks. Restart the printer with its power button. If the message says the cartridge is incompatible, confirm it is a 951 and not a 953 or 963. It can. On the 8600 and 8610 series, the printhead is a separate part that sits under the cartridges and draws ink from them. Poor-quality refill ink can carry particles or air that clog nozzles, and a printhead replacement costs far more than one cartridge. Mixing refilled and original colours also leads to uneven output. For older printers that you want to keep running, original cartridges protect the most expensive part.

Start with the cartridge and cleaning, then consider the printhead. Install a fresh original magenta, then run the printhead cleaning tool from the printer's maintenance menu up to three times. Print the print quality report after each clean. If streaks shrink, the nozzles are recovering. If magenta lines are still missing after three cleans, the printhead is likely worn, and replacing it or upgrading the printer becomes the sensible next step.
