ColourSoft 83A Black Toner CF283A is available at Mascom International for KSh 3,200, brand new and sealed, built to replace the HP 83A (CF283A) in HP LaserJet Pro M201 printers and the LaserJet Pro MFP M125, M127 and M225 series. It is a compatible cartridge made by ColourSoft, not an HP product. HP rates its own 83A at 1,500 pages, and that figure is the useful reference point when you plan a print budget. You can collect the ColourSoft 83A Black Toner CF283A from our shop at Old Mutual Building, First Floor Room 4, Kimathi Street, Nairobi CBD, or order it for pay-on-arrival delivery.
Built for small offices, accountants, lawyers, school bursars and cyber cafe owners across Kenya, the ColourSoft 83A Black Toner CF283A handles the daily black-and-white work these printers were bought for: invoices, delivery notes, KRA returns, contracts and class handouts. The problem many offices face is simple. An HP 83A costs KSh 14,000, and a busy all-in-one can empty one within a few weeks. Paying that every month strains a small business. The ColourSoft 83A Black Toner CF283A brings the cost of a fresh cartridge down to KSh 3,200, so the printer keeps working without eating into the month's margins.
Unlike other electronics retailers in Kenya, Mascom International names the maker on every compatible cartridge it sells, so you know exactly which brand goes into your printer. The ColourSoft 83A Black Toner CF283A sits between the HP 83A at KSh 14,000 and the Lightwave 83A compatible at KSh 2,150, which gives you a clear choice of budget at one counter. Customers across Nairobi tell us they value seeing the pack in person before they pay. Visit the shop on Kimathi Street, or send your printer model on WhatsApp and we will confirm the fit before delivery.
Common Questions About the ColourSoft 83A Black Toner CF283A
How much is the ColourSoft 83A Black Toner CF283A in Kenya?
The ColourSoft 83A Black Toner CF283A costs KSh 3,200 at Mascom International in Nairobi, sold sealed in its pack. That price covers one cartridge, the 6-month warranty on manufacturing defects, and pay-on-arrival delivery, so you can inspect the pack before paying in cash or by M-Pesa. It is KSh 10,800 less than the HP 83A at KSh 14,000 and KSh 1,050 more than the Lightwave 83A compatible at KSh 2,150 in our shop. We confirm the current price on WhatsApp before dispatch.
Which printers does the ColourSoft 83A Black Toner CF283A fit?
The ColourSoft 83A Black Toner CF283A fits HP LaserJet Pro M201 printers and the LaserJet Pro MFP M125, M127 and M225 series. That covers models such as the M125nw, M125rnw, M127fn, M127fw, M201n, M201dw and M225dn. The quickest check is the cartridge already in your printer: if it reads 83A or CF283A, this is its replacement. If you are unsure, send a photo of the printer's model label to Mascom International on WhatsApp and we will confirm the match before you pay.
How does the ColourSoft 83A Black Toner CF283A compare with the HP 83A and the Lightwave 83A?
The ColourSoft 83A Black Toner CF283A sits between the two on price at KSh 3,200, against KSh 14,000 for the HP 83A and KSh 2,150 for the Lightwave 83A at Mascom International. The HP cartridge carries HP's own 1,500-page rating and HP's name on the box. Both compatibles are made by other companies to fit the same slot. Choose the HP 83A if a printer lease or office policy demands HP supplies. Choose a compatible when cartridge cost matters most, then pick between ColourSoft and Lightwave on brand preference and budget.
How many pages will the ColourSoft 83A Black Toner CF283A print?
HP rates its own 83A cartridge at 1,500 pages under the ISO/IEC 19752 test, and the ColourSoft 83A Black Toner CF283A is built to replace that cartridge. That makes 1,500 pages the sensible planning reference, though ColourSoft's own output is not quoted here. Real page counts depend on what you print. A page of short letters uses far less toner than a dense spreadsheet, a scanned ID copy or a page of logos. Offices printing heavy graphics should expect fewer pages than the rating suggests.
How should I store and use the ColourSoft 83A Black Toner CF283A in Kenya's dust, heat and power cuts?
Keep the ColourSoft 83A Black Toner CF283A sealed until installation day, lying flat in a cool, shaded drawer away from direct sun. Dust from busy Nairobi roads settles inside printers, so close the cover when the machine is idle. When a KPLC power cut stops a job halfway, wait for the printer to restart fully before you reprint or open the door. A surge protector on the printer's socket helps guard it against voltage spikes when power returns after an outage.
Will my HP printer accept the ColourSoft 83A Black Toner CF283A?
Your printer should accept the ColourSoft 83A Black Toner CF283A once it is correctly installed, and a refusal is covered by the 6-month warranty. Some HP printers display a notice that a non-HP supply is in place; this is normal with any compatible cartridge, and you press OK to carry on printing. Bring your old cartridge or its model number when you buy, and Mascom International will check that it matches the bay in your machine.
How do I install the ColourSoft 83A Black Toner CF283A?
Installing the ColourSoft 83A Black Toner CF283A takes a couple of minutes and needs no tools. Switch the printer on, open the cartridge door and lift out the empty cartridge. Take the replacement from its sealed pack, remove any packing tape or protective cover, then rock it gently from side to side to spread the toner evenly. Slide it in until it seats, close the door and print a test page. If streaks appear, our team will guide you on WhatsApp.
Who should buy the ColourSoft 83A Black Toner CF283A, and who should skip it?
The ColourSoft 83A Black Toner CF283A suits small offices, schools and home users who print steady black text and want to cut the cost of each cartridge. It is a sound pick for a firm printing tax returns, receipts and letters every week. Skip it if your company's printer lease or service contract requires HP-branded supplies; the HP 83A at Mascom International is the better fit there. Buyers who simply want the lowest shelf price may prefer the Lightwave 83A at KSh 2,150.
Technical Specifications
Core Function
- Black laser toner cartridge — prints crisp monochrome text, tables and line drawings for everyday office documents and forms.
- Built to replace the HP 83A (CF283A) — slots into the same cartridge bay with no printer settings to change.
- Made by ColourSoft, a compatible toner brand — a lower-cost alternative to HP-branded supplies for the same printers.
- Supplies toner for printing and copying, plus faxing on fax-equipped models — every black page the machine produces draws on it.
- Monochrome output only — these printers work in black, so one cartridge covers all their output with nothing else to manage.
Compatibility
- HP LaserJet Pro MFP M125 series, including the M125nw and M125rnw — compact all-in-ones that print, copy and scan.
- HP LaserJet Pro MFP M127 series, including the M127fn and M127fw — print, copy, scan and fax from one desk unit.
- HP LaserJet Pro M201 series, including the M201n and M201dw — print-only models, with the dw adding two-sided printing and wireless.
- HP LaserJet Pro MFP M225 series, including the M225dn — an all-in-one with automatic two-sided printing for busier desks.
- Match check before ordering — your old cartridge should read 83A or CF283A; other cartridge numbers will not fit this bay.
Yield and Running Cost
- HP rates its own 83A at 1,500 pages under ISO/IEC 19752 — the reference point for planning how often you reorder.
- Actual page count varies with coverage — dense spreadsheets and logos use more toner than short letters and memos.
- KSh 3,200 per cartridge — KSh 10,800 less than the HP 83A at KSh 14,000 at Mascom International.
- HP 83A works out at about KSh 9.33 per page on its 1,500-page rating — the cost a compatible cartridge is bought to cut.
- Four ColourSoft cartridges cost KSh 12,800 — still KSh 1,200 less than a single HP 83A from the same counter.
Build
- All-in-one layout matching the HP 83A — toner and imaging drum sit in one unit, so there is no separate drum to buy.
- Body shaped to the CF283A footprint — slides into the cartridge bay and locks the same way the HP part does.
- Sealed pack — keeps moisture and dust away from the toner until the day you fit it.
- No tools or adjustments needed — the cartridge seats by hand and the printer is ready after one test page.
- Covered against toner leaks and persistent streaking — the two faults buyers worry about most with compatible cartridges.
Inclusions
- One ColourSoft 83A Black Toner CF283A cartridge — a full replacement for one printer.
- Sealed retail pack — open it only when you are ready to install, so the toner stays fresh.
- No cables, paper or setup software — the cartridge works with the printer and drivers you already have.
- 6-month warranty through Mascom International — covers leaks, streaking and refusal when correctly installed.
- Pay-on-arrival delivery option — check the sealed pack at your door before you hand over payment.
