Lenovo ThinkPad T61 Laptop Battery | 10.8V 4400mAh | Fits ThinkPad T61 T61p R61 T400 R400 | Replacement Battery
Six fresh lithium-ion cells bring a classic 14-inch business notebook back to cordless work away from the wall socket.
Condition: New
Note: price and availability are subject to change without prior notice
Lenovo ThinkPad T61 Laptop Battery is available at Mascom International for KSh 3,200, a brand new 10.8V 4400mAh replacement pack for the 14-inch widescreen ThinkPad T61 and its close relatives. Many buyers still ask for it as the IBM T61 battery, because the ThinkPad line started under IBM before Lenovo took it over. The Lenovo ThinkPad T61 Laptop Battery is a six-cell lithium-ion unit that locks into the back of the laptop without tools. You can collect it from our shop on the first floor of Old Mutual Building, Kimathi Street, in Nairobi CBD, or order it for delivery.
Built for accountants, lawyers, university students and small-business owners across Kenya who still rely on an older ThinkPad, the Lenovo ThinkPad T61 Laptop Battery fixes the most common complaint about these machines. After years of use, the original pack often holds only a few minutes of charge. The laptop then shuts down the moment you unplug it, or the moment KPLC cuts power in Kilimani or Industrial Area. A fresh pack restores cordless use, so you can carry the machine between meetings, sit through a lecture at Kenyatta University, or ride out a blackout without losing an unsaved spreadsheet.
Where most Nairobi electronics shops sell unlabelled batteries off a shelf with no fit check, Mascom International matches each pack to your laptop before you pay. Bring the laptop to our counter and the team will check the fit, or send the code printed on your old battery or the laptop's model sticker on WhatsApp. Customers across Nairobi tell us the Lenovo ThinkPad T61 Laptop Battery gave their trusted T61 or R61 a second life for far less than the cost of another computer. Walk in to collect the Lenovo ThinkPad T61 Laptop Battery today, or order delivery with payment on arrival anywhere in Kenya.
Common Questions About the Lenovo ThinkPad T61 Laptop Battery
How much is the Lenovo ThinkPad T61 Laptop Battery in Kenya?
The Lenovo ThinkPad T61 Laptop Battery costs KSh 3,200 at Mascom International in Nairobi CBD, sold brand new. That price covers one 10.8V 4400mAh six-cell replacement pack and a 6-month warranty against manufacturing defects. It does not include a charger, and fitting is not part of the price, although the pack slides into place without tools. Delivery is pay-on-arrival across all 47 counties, so you can inspect the battery before paying. It sits at the same price as the Toshiba PA3356U Laptop Battery in our range.
Will the Lenovo ThinkPad T61 Laptop Battery fit my T61, or are there different T61 batteries?
The Lenovo ThinkPad T61 Laptop Battery fits the 14-inch widescreen T61 and T61p, plus the R61, T400 and R400 that share the same pack shape. T61 units with a standard 4:3 screen use a different battery shape shared with the older T60 family, and some larger-screen versions differ again. Before buying, turn the laptop over and read the part number on the old battery, such as 42T5265, 42T4645 or 42T5227. Send a photo of that label on WhatsApp and our Nairobi team confirms the match.
How does the Lenovo ThinkPad T61 Laptop Battery compare with the Dell Latitude D820 Laptop Battery?
Both batteries cost KSh 3,200 at Mascom International, but they are not interchangeable, because each fits only its own maker's laptops. The T61 pack is rated 10.8V and 4400mAh and locks into ThinkPad T61, R61, T400 and R400 models. The Dell Latitude D820 Laptop Battery serves Dell's older business laptops of the same era, with a different shape and connector. Choose by the laptop you own, not by price. If your office runs a mix of ThinkPads and Latitudes, we can supply both in one order.
Can the Lenovo ThinkPad T61 Laptop Battery keep me working during KPLC power cuts?
Yes, a healthy Lenovo ThinkPad T61 Laptop Battery keeps your laptop running when KPLC power drops, instead of letting it switch off instantly. Runtime depends on screen brightness, Wi-Fi use and how hard the processor works, so dim the screen during a long blackout. Plug the laptop's adapter back in when power returns so the pack recharges. In hot rooms in Mombasa or Garissa, avoid charging the laptop on a bed or cushion, because trapped heat shortens the life of any lithium-ion battery. A surge protector also shields the adapter when power comes back.
Who should buy the Lenovo ThinkPad T61 Laptop Battery, and who should skip it?
Buy the Lenovo ThinkPad T61 Laptop Battery if your T61, T61p, R61, T400 or R400 still runs well but dies when unplugged. It suits offices, schools and freelancers who keep older ThinkPads for typing, accounting software, email and browsing. Skip it if you own a 4:3 screen T61 that takes the older pack shape, or if the machine itself is failing, with a broken hinge, a dying hard drive or no charging light on mains power. In that case, a used business laptop such as a newer ThinkPad or HP EliteBook is the better spend.
How long does a brand new Lenovo ThinkPad T61 Laptop Battery last before it needs replacing?
A brand new Lenovo ThinkPad T61 Laptop Battery wears gradually with each charge cycle, like every lithium-ion pack. How fast it ages depends on heat, how often you drain it flat, and whether the laptop sits on mains power at full charge all day. Most users get many months to a few years of good service before capacity drops noticeably. To slow wear, avoid running it to zero daily and keep the laptop on a hard, cool desk. If the pack develops a manufacturing fault within six months, the warranty covers it.
How do I install the Lenovo ThinkPad T61 Laptop Battery myself?
The Lenovo ThinkPad T61 Laptop Battery installs from the underside of the laptop with no tools. Shut the laptop down, unplug the adapter and turn it over. Slide the battery latch to unlock, lift out the old pack, and push the new one in until it clicks. Plug in the adapter and charge to full before your first unplugged session. If Windows reports the battery as not charging, send us a screenshot on WhatsApp, or bring the laptop to our Kimathi Street counter so the team can check the fit in person.
Can I order the Lenovo ThinkPad T61 Laptop Battery from Kisumu or Eldoret?
Yes, Mascom International delivers the Lenovo ThinkPad T61 Laptop Battery to all 47 counties with payment on arrival. Kisumu, Eldoret, Nakuru and Mombasa receive orders within one business day, while Nairobi orders arrive the same day. Send the part number from your old battery on WhatsApp first, so we confirm the match before dispatch. You pay by M-Pesa or cash only when the pack reaches you, which removes the risk of paying upfront for a part that might not fit.
Technical Specifications
Cell and Capacity
- Rated at 10.8V — the voltage this ThinkPad family expects, so the laptop recognises and charges the pack normally.
- 4400mAh capacity — roughly 47.5Wh of stored energy, the usual six-cell size for this generation of ThinkPad.
- Six lithium-ion cells inside the pack — a layout that balances unplugged runtime against the weight you carry daily.
- Brand new cells with no previous charge cycles — capacity starts fresh rather than worn down like a years-old original.
- Lithium-ion chemistry with no memory effect — you can top up at any charge level without harming capacity.
Compatibility and Model Matching
- Fits ThinkPad T61 and T61p with 14-inch widescreen displays — check the screen shape before ordering to avoid a mismatch.
- Also fits ThinkPad R61 14-inch widescreen, T400 and R400 — these models share the same battery bay shape.
- Matches part numbers including 42T5265, 42T4645, 42T5227 and 42T4533 — read the code printed on the old battery label.
- Does not fit 4:3 screen T61 units — those take the older pack shape used across the T60 family.
- Send the old battery code or the laptop model sticker on WhatsApp — the team confirms the match before you pay.
Build and Safety
- Slides into the rear battery bay and locks with the laptop's own latch — no screws, tools or opening of the case.
- Protection circuit inside the pack — guards against overcharging, deep discharge and short circuits during daily use.
- Reports charge level to the laptop — Windows shows the percentage left, so you know when to plug in.
- Black housing that sits flush with the ThinkPad's rear edge — the laptop keeps its normal shape and balance.
- Gold-coloured contact strip matches the laptop's battery connector — clean it with a dry cloth if charging stops.
Charging and Care
- Charge to 100 percent before first unplugged use — this lets the power gauge learn the pack's real capacity.
- Avoid draining to zero every day — shallow discharges between 20 and 80 percent slow cell wear.
- Store at about half charge if the laptop will sit unused for weeks — a full or empty pack ages faster in storage.
- Keep the laptop's vents clear while charging — heat is the main cause of early lithium-ion capacity loss.
- Charge only with a ThinkPad adapter of the correct rating — a wrong adapter can stop charging or stress the cells.
Inclusions
- One brand new Lenovo ThinkPad T61 Laptop Battery — ready to fit and charge as soon as it arrives.
