Anthem | Xbox One Physical Disc | Sealed Collector Copy | Servers Closed January 2026 | Not Playable
BioWare's exosuit adventure from EA, factory-wrapped for display shelves now that its online service has ended.
Condition: New
Note: price and availability are subject to change without prior notice
Anthem is available at Mascom International for KSh 4,500 as a brand new and sealed Xbox One physical disc, but please read this first: it can no longer be played. EA shut down the Anthem servers on 12 January 2026, and because Anthem is an always-online game, the shutdown made the entire game unplayable on every platform. BioWare developed Anthem and EA released it in February 2019, with the cover stating that an internet connection and Xbox Live Gold are required. You can view this sealed copy of Anthem at our store in Old Mutual Building, Kimathi Street, Nairobi CBD.
Built for collectors rather than players, Anthem now suits people who keep sealed boxes of games that marked a moment in Xbox history. BioWare, the studio behind Mass Effect and Dragon Age, built Anthem around pilots in flying armoured exosuits called Javelins. Some buyers want a complete shelf of BioWare releases; others want a sealed copy as a gift for a friend who played it at launch. If you want to fly a Javelin yourself, Anthem cannot help, and no patch, account or faster internet connection will change that. We would rather say this plainly than lose your trust.
Where most Nairobi electronics shops would leave a dead online game in the bargain bin without comment, Mascom International lists Anthem with its server status stated first. Customers across Nairobi tell us they value being warned before they spend, especially on games that depend on a publisher's servers. If you came for co-op action, ask us about playable Xbox discs such as Monster Hunter World instead. Collectors anywhere in Kenya can still order Anthem with pay-on-arrival delivery, or call ahead to reserve the copy at our Kimathi Street counter.
Common Questions About Anthem
How much is Anthem for Xbox One in Kenya?
Anthem costs KSh 4,500 brand new and sealed at Mascom International in Nairobi CBD, sold as a collector's copy because the game no longer runs. EA closed the Anthem servers on 12 January 2026, so the disc cannot start a playable session. The price covers the sealed Xbox One disc in its original case and our 6-month warranty on the physical disc. Delivery is pay-on-arrival across Kenya, and you can inspect the wrap before paying by cash or M-Pesa.
Can you still play Anthem in 2026?
No, Anthem cannot be played in 2026 on Xbox One, Xbox Series X or any other platform. EA switched off the Anthem servers on 12 January 2026, and coverage of the announcement said the shutdown would render the entire game unplayable. Anthem was always online, so even solo missions depended on those servers. Before the shutdown, EA removed paid in-game currency from the shop on 4 July 2025 and took the game off EA Play on 15 August 2025.
Does Anthem have an offline mode?
Anthem has no offline mode, and the cover itself states that an internet connection and Xbox Live Gold are required. The game was described as always online and multiplayer focused, even though many people played it largely solo. With the servers closed, there is nothing left for the disc to connect to. No offline update formed part of EA's shutdown announcement, so treat this Anthem copy as a collectible rather than a game you can load and finish.
Will a faster Safaricom or Airtel connection make Anthem work in Kenya?
No internet connection in Kenya, whether Safaricom Home Fibre, Airtel Kenya or a Telkom line, can make Anthem work. The problem is not your network speed but EA's servers, which closed on 12 January 2026. A VPN, a new Microsoft account or an Xbox Game Pass Essential plan will not help either, because no server remains to answer the game. If anyone in Nairobi offers to unlock Anthem for a fee, treat it as a scam and never send money by M-Pesa for it.
Anthem or Monster Hunter World: which should I buy for Xbox co-op?
Monster Hunter World is the one to buy if you want to play, because Anthem no longer runs at all. Both games are built around co-op missions with gear you upgrade between runs, but only Monster Hunter World still loads on an Xbox One or Xbox Series X. Anthem offers flying Javelin suits in a sci-fi world; Monster Hunter World swaps that for giant creatures and weapons crafted from their parts. Choose Anthem only as a sealed keepsake.
Will Anthem work on the Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S?
Anthem will not play on the Xbox Series X or the Xbox Series S, because the servers it needs closed on 12 January 2026. Before the shutdown, the disc ran on a Series X through backward compatibility, but that no longer matters. The Xbox Series S has no disc drive, so it cannot read this copy at all. If you own a Series X and want something to play tonight, Mascom International stocks playable Xbox discs such as Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto V.
Who should buy Anthem and who should skip it?
Anthem is only for collectors who want a sealed BioWare release for a shelf, a display cabinet or a gift to someone who played it in 2019. Everyone who wants to play should skip it, because the game no longer starts a session on any console. That includes parents buying a game for a child and anyone hoping a future update will bring it back. Players who want co-op missions and gear upgrades will be far happier with Monster Hunter World on Xbox.
Is Anthem a good collectible for Xbox fans in Kenya?
Anthem appeals to Xbox collectors in Kenya because it is a BioWare release that can no longer be played, so a sealed copy marks a closed chapter. The original cover still carries the lines requiring internet and Xbox Live Gold, which now tell the story of the shutdown on their own. Mascom International makes no promise that Anthem will rise in value, and we do not suggest buying it as an investment. Buy it because you want the box itself.
Technical Specifications
Server Status and Core Function
- Servers closed on 12 January 2026 — EA switched them off, so Anthem cannot be played on any platform today.
- Always-online design — every mission, even solo, needed EA's servers, so no part of the game survives offline.
- Original release in February 2019 — BioWare's online action game launched on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC together.
- Javelin exosuits — players piloted flying armoured suits, the feature most fans still remember from the game.
- Paid in-game currency withdrawn on 4 July 2025 — EA stopped all further in-game purchases months before the servers closed.
- Removed from EA Play on 15 August 2025 — subscribers lost access through that service ahead of the final shutdown.
Compatibility
- Xbox One family — the disc reads in consoles with a drive, but the game has no server left to connect to.
- Xbox Series X — the disc was backward compatible before the shutdown; it offers no playable session on Series X now.
- Xbox Series S — this console has no disc drive, so it cannot read this physical copy in any form.
- Xbox One S All-Digital Edition — also built without a drive, so the disc has no use on that model either.
- PlayStation 4 and PC versions — sold separately at launch; this Xbox One disc does not run on either platform.
Online Requirements
- Internet connection required — printed on the cover, but there is no longer any server for that connection to reach.
- Xbox Live Gold required — the cover's original requirement; Microsoft has since replaced Gold with Xbox Game Pass Essential.
- No subscription restores play — buying Game Pass Essential or any EA plan will not bring the game back.
- No local or offline mode — the game was built to run only through EA's online service from day one.
- No revival announced — EA's shutdown notice made no mention of an offline update or a return of the servers.
Build and Condition
- Factory-sealed retail case — the shrink-wrap is intact, so the disc inside has never been installed or handled.
- Physical Xbox One Blu-ray disc — the original game disc, kept exactly as EA issued it for retail sale.
- Original cover art — shows the Anthem branding plus the internet and Xbox Live Gold requirement lines from 2019.
- Developer BioWare, publisher Electronic Arts — the studio is best known for the Mass Effect and Dragon Age series.
- Display care — store the case upright and out of direct sunlight so the cover print and wrap stay clean.
Inclusions
- One sealed Anthem disc for Xbox One — the complete retail copy in its case, never opened.
- Printed cover sleeve inside the wrap — the original artwork as shipped by EA, useful to collectors who value condition.
- No download code or subscription — nothing in the box grants online access, since the online service has ended.
- Console and controller not included — the disc is sold on its own as a collectible item.
- Mascom International receipt — your proof of purchase for the 6-month warranty on the physical disc.
Package Contents
Anthem comes as a factory-sealed Xbox One retail case holding the game disc and its printed cover art. We leave the wrap untouched, which is what keeps the copy's appeal to a collector. Nothing else ships with it: no console, no controller, no subscription and no code that restores play. If you are buying it as a gift, tell the recipient plainly that the servers closed on 12 January 2026, so the box is a keepsake rather than something to install and play.
Warranty
Mascom International backs the Anthem disc with a 6-month warranty covering manufacturing defects in the physical disc and case. Because EA closed the servers, no warranty can restore gameplay, and the copy is sold on that basis. Claims for physical defects are handled at our Nairobi CBD service desk on Kimathi Street.
