Mascom International stocks the Porodo 20000mAh Solar Power Bank at KSh 7,800, a black 20000mAh battery pack with three detachable solar panels and a built-in torch. It is brand new and sealed, made by Porodo, the Dubai-based mobile accessories brand. The Porodo 20000mAh Solar Power Bank charges phones over USB-C at up to 20W and over USB-A at up to 18W, and it carries an IP45 rating against dust and splashing water. Pick it up at Old Mutual Building, First Floor Room 4, Kimathi Street, Nairobi CBD, or order it to any county for payment on arrival.
Built for field engineers, NGO field staff, surveyors and families in areas with unreliable power across Kenya, the Porodo 20000mAh Solar Power Bank keeps a phone alive far from a socket. Picture three days of fieldwork in Turkana, or a rural home in Kitui where the evening supply cuts out. A standard power bank runs dry and stays empty until you reach a plug. This pack holds a large 20000mAh reserve, the panels add a slow solar top-up in daylight, and the torch lights the path to the gate once the bulbs go dark.
Unlike other electronics retailers in Kenya that offer solar packs with no output figures on the box, Mascom International sells the Porodo 20000mAh Solar Power Bank with its port ratings stated clearly. Buyers throughout Kenya report that the large battery does the heavy lifting, while sunlight stretches it further on long trips. Treat the panels as a backup, not a replacement for wall charging. At KSh 7,800, the Porodo 20000mAh Solar Power Bank comes with a 6-month warranty and a shop you can walk into. Stop by Kimathi Street and unfold the panels yourself before you buy.
Common Questions About the Porodo 20000mAh Solar Power Bank
What does the Porodo 20000mAh Solar Power Bank cost in Kenya?
The Porodo 20000mAh Solar Power Bank is priced at KSh 7,800, brand new, at Mascom International on Kimathi Street, Nairobi. You get the black pack with its three detachable solar panels and built-in torch, a 6-month warranty, and pay-on-arrival delivery to every county. It costs KSh 4,000 more than the Porodo 10000mAh MagSafe Power Bank, which holds half the capacity and has neither solar panels nor a torch, so the extra money buys off-grid features.
How well does the Porodo 20000mAh Solar Power Bank charge from sunlight?
Solar charging on the Porodo 20000mAh Solar Power Bank works, but it is slow, so treat it as a top-up rather than the main way to fill the pack. Small panels collect limited energy even under strong Kenyan sun. For a full refill, charge the pack from a wall adapter over USB-C at up to 18W before you set off. Then lay the panels open in direct sunlight during the day to replace some of what your phone uses.
Is the Porodo 20000mAh Solar Power Bank a better buy than the Porodo 4G MiFi Power Bank 10000mAh?
Both cost KSh 7,800, but they solve different problems. The Porodo 20000mAh Solar Power Bank stores twice the energy, adds solar panels and a torch, and carries an IP45 rating. The Porodo 4G MiFi Power Bank 10000mAh doubles as a 4G hotspot for laptops and tablets, using a Safaricom, Airtel or Telkom SIM. Choose the solar pack when power is the bigger worry. Choose the MiFi pack when you need internet in places without Wi-Fi.
Can the Porodo 20000mAh Solar Power Bank handle dust, rain and rough travel?
The Porodo 20000mAh Solar Power Bank carries an IP45 rating, meaning it resists dust and low-pressure water jets from any direction. In practice, it survives dusty murram roads, a sudden Kisumu downpour or splashes on a boat to Lamu. It is not waterproof, so never submerge it or leave it in standing water. Close any port covers before rain, and dry the pack before charging. Keep it out of a hot, closed car for long periods.
How many devices can the Porodo 20000mAh Solar Power Bank charge at once?
The Porodo 20000mAh Solar Power Bank has two output ports, so it can charge two devices together. The USB-C port supplies up to 20W, fast enough for recent iPhones and many Android phones. The USB-A port supplies up to 18W for older phones, a radio, a torch or a small fan. For the quickest charge, connect one phone at a time. For an evening of power cuts, a phone and a second device can draw from it side by side.
What is the torch on the Porodo 20000mAh Solar Power Bank useful for?
The built-in torch turns the Porodo 20000mAh Solar Power Bank into a light source during blackouts, on camping trips and while working late outdoors. It saves your phone's own flashlight, which drains the phone battery quickly. Use it to find the meter box during a KPLC outage, check a car engine at night, or light a tent at Hell's Gate. Porodo describes it as a multi-mode light, so you can switch between settings to suit the moment.
Can I recharge the Porodo 20000mAh Solar Power Bank with an old Micro USB cable?
Yes, the Porodo 20000mAh Solar Power Bank accepts a Micro USB input at up to 10W as well as USB-C at up to 18W. That helps in rural areas where older Micro USB cables are still the most common lead in the house. The USB-C input is the faster option and the one to use when time is short. Either way, use a good wall adapter, because cheap adapters can deliver far less power than their labels promise.
Who should buy the Porodo 20000mAh Solar Power Bank, and who should skip it?
The Porodo 20000mAh Solar Power Bank suits people who spend long stretches away from reliable power: field staff, farmers, campers, overland drivers and households in areas with frequent outages. Skip it if you mainly need a slim pocket charger for city days in Westlands or Upper Hill; it is heavier than a 10000mAh pack. The Porodo Bluvora MagSafe Power Bank, at KSh 3,800, fits that daily commute better and snaps onto a MagSafe iPhone.
