Keep your whole collection installed and ready to play, with no more choosing which title to remove ahead of each release.
Condition: New
Note: price and availability are subject to change without prior notice
WD Black SN850P 2TB is in stock at Mascom International, priced at KSh 45,000, brand new and sealed, with its PlayStation-licensed heatsink already fitted. Western Digital builds the WD Black SN850P for the PS5 expansion slot, using a PCIe Gen4 NVMe connection in the standard M.2 2280 size. This 2TB version reads at up to 7,300MB/s and writes at up to 6,600MB/s, so big installs finish quickly and games run directly from it. The WD Black SN850P 2TB is on our shelves at the Old Mutual Building, First Floor Room 4, Kimathi Street, Nairobi CBD.
Designed for PS5 owners who buy every major release, the WD Black SN850P 2TB handles the collector's problem: a library that has outgrown the console. Annual sports titles, shooters with huge patches and long open-world adventures all compete for the same space. Without extra room, each new game forces you to delete an old one and download it again later over your home connection. The WD Black SN850P 2TB keeps the whole collection installed, so a friend visiting from Kilimani or Westlands can pick any game and play at once. Families sharing one console between several players benefit the most.
Where most Nairobi electronics shops offer generic Gen4 sticks and leave you to check heatsink height, Mascom International supplies the WD Black SN850P sealed, licensed and ready for the slot. Buyers throughout Kenya report that the 2TB size is the one they stop thinking about once fitted. The sealed retail box also carries a 14-day PlayStation Plus trial offer, a useful extra for new subscribers. Order on WhatsApp and pay with Lipa na M-Pesa on arrival, or visit us on Kimathi Street to collect it the same day.
Common Questions About the WD Black SN850P
What is the WD Black SN850P 2TB price in Kenya?
The WD Black SN850P 2TB price in Kenya is KSh 45,000 at Mascom International in Nairobi CBD, brand new and sealed. You get the fitted heatsink, the 14-day PlayStation Plus trial offer in the box, a 6-month Mascom International warranty and pay-on-arrival delivery countrywide. The 1TB version sells for KSh 34,000, so the 2TB costs KSh 11,000 more for double the space. That brings the cost down to about KSh 22.50 per gigabyte, against about KSh 34 per gigabyte on the 1TB.
Is the WD Black SN850P 2TB worth KSh 11,000 more than the 1TB?
For most regular PS5 gamers, yes: the WD Black SN850P 2TB doubles the space for about a third more money. Both sizes read at up to 7,300MB/s, but the 2TB writes faster at up to 6,600MB/s against 6,300MB/s. It also handles small-file loads better, with 1,200K random read IOPS against 800K, and its endurance doubles to 1,200TB written. Choose the 1TB if you play a few titles at a time and want to save KSh 11,000. Choose the 2TB if you keep buying games and hate deleting them.
How many PS5 games fit on the WD Black SN850P 2TB?
The WD Black SN850P 2TB gives you twice the game space of the 1TB model, on top of the console's own built-in storage. The exact count depends on what you play, because modern shooters and sports titles take far more room than smaller indie games. After formatting, the PS5 shows a little under the full 2TB as free space, which is normal for any drive. Most players find that the 2TB lets them keep their entire active collection installed, with room left over for the next few releases.
Does the WD Black SN850P 2TB save data costs on Safaricom, Airtel Kenya or Telkom connections?
Yes, the WD Black SN850P 2TB saves data by letting you keep games installed instead of deleting and downloading them again. Every re-download of a large game eats into a Safaricom, Airtel Kenya or Telkom data bundle, and even on unlimited home fibre it can take hours on a busy evening. With 2TB of extra room, you download each title once and only fetch its patches afterwards. Gamers in Nakuru, Eldoret and other towns with slower fixed connections tell us this is where the drive pays for itself.
Who should buy the WD Black SN850P 2TB, and who should skip it?
The WD Black SN850P 2TB is for PS5 owners who buy most big releases, families sharing one console, and anyone tired of managing storage every month. Skip it if you play one or two games for months at a time, because the WD Black SN850P 1TB at KSh 34,000 covers that need for less. It is also the wrong buy for PS4 owners, since the PS4 has no M.2 expansion slot. If you only need a place to park older PS4 games, a USB external drive is the cheaper option.
What PlayStation Plus offer comes with the WD Black SN850P 2TB?
The sealed WD Black SN850P 2TB box includes a 14-day PlayStation Plus trial offer at the Deluxe membership tier. That tier covers online multiplayer, cloud saves and access to a rotating catalogue of games you can download and play during the trial. Redeem it on your PlayStation account by following the steps on the insert inside the box. The offer comes from Western Digital and PlayStation, so Mascom International cannot exchange it for cash, extend it or move it to another account.
How do I install the WD Black SN850P 2TB in my PS5?
Installing the WD Black SN850P 2TB takes one small Phillips screwdriver and no special skill. Switch the PS5 off fully, unplug every cable, and lay it on a soft cloth. Remove the console's side cover, then unscrew the M.2 slot cover underneath. Slide the drive into the slot at an angle, press it flat, and fix it with the retaining screw. Refit both covers, reconnect the console and switch it on. The PS5 prompts you to format the drive, and it is ready to use once formatting finishes.
How long will the WD Black SN850P 2TB last in a PS5?
The WD Black SN850P 2TB is rated for 1,200TB written, double the 1TB model's rating. Installing a 150GB game every single day would take about 22 years to reach that figure, far beyond the life of the console itself. In real use, PS5 gaming is mostly reading data, which wears an SSD far less than writing. The drive also runs within a 0°C to 85°C range, and its heatsink keeps it cool through long weekend sessions, so heat is not a concern either.
Technical Specifications
Core Function
- NVMe solid state drive made for the PS5 M.2 expansion slot — gives the console 2TB of extra installed-game space.
- PCIe Gen4 x4 link — four fast data lanes, matching the connection standard the PS5 expansion slot expects from a drive.
- PS5 games run straight from this drive — the console treats it the same way as its own internal storage.
- Works as the default install drive — set it once, and every new purchase and update downloads directly onto it.
- Built-in heatsink fitted at the factory — a metal plate that pulls heat off the drive so it holds speed in long sessions.
Performance
- Sequential read speed up to 7,300MB/s — large maps and textures stream in quickly, shortening the wait between menus and gameplay.
- Sequential write speed up to 6,600MB/s — faster than the 1TB version, so big game installs and transfers finish sooner.
- Random read up to 1,200K IOPS — IOPS counts small read operations per second, which matter when games load many tiny files.
- Random write up to 1,100K IOPS — small writes such as save files and patch fragments go through without holding you up.
- Rated endurance of 1,200TB written — twice the 1TB model's rating, giving years of heavy installing and deleting.
Compatibility
- Officially licensed for PS5 by PlayStation — the PlayStation logo on the heatsink confirms it was made for the console.
- Fits original PS5, PlayStation 5 Slim and PlayStation 5 Pro consoles, covering both disc-drive and digital-only editions.
- Accepts desktop PC use through any M.2 2280 M-key slot — handy if you later move it into a gaming tower.
- Listed for Windows 8.1, Windows 10 and Windows 11 — covers the operating systems on almost every current desktop PC.
- Not suited to PS4 or Xbox — the PS4 lacks an M.2 slot, and Xbox consoles take their own branded expansion cards.
Build
- Standard M.2 2280 stick — 22mm wide by 80mm long, the drive length the PS5 slot holds with its retaining screw.
- Measures about 80 x 24.3 x 9.9mm including the heatsink — slim enough to close under the PS5 slot cover.
- Weighs around 30.4g complete — the heatsink adds cooling while the whole unit stays light in your hand.
- Works from 0°C to 85°C — a wide margin that covers warm rooms and long gaming nights without throttling worries.
- Safe in storage from -40°C to 85°C — the drive can sit on a shelf or travel in transit before installation.
Inclusions
- Drive supplied with its heatsink pre-attached — nothing to assemble, peel or clip on before it goes into the slot.
- 14-day PlayStation Plus trial offer packed inside the sealed retail box, redeemable on your PlayStation account.
- Western Digital printed documentation in the box, covering basic installation and product safety guidance for first-time users.
- Phillips screwdriver not supplied — you need a small one to open the PS5 slot cover and fix the retaining screw.
- No cables or software required — the M.2 slot supplies power and data, and the PS5 formats the drive itself.
