Shields salary files, patient notes and banking apps from anyone sharing your desk, bench or bus seat.
Condition: New
Note: price and availability are subject to change without prior notice
Mascom International stocks the 15-inch Laptop Privacy Filter Wide at KSh 3,500, brand new and sealed, for laptops with 15.4-inch class 16:10 screens. The black sheet measures 333 x 208mm and uses micro-louver film, so the picture stays clear to you while people more than about 30 degrees to either side see only a dark panel. A matte face trims glare, and slim tabs on the bezel hold the 15-inch Laptop Privacy Filter Wide in place without glue on the screen. Pick one up at Old Mutual Building, Kimathi Street, Nairobi CBD, where fitting by our technicians is part of the price.
Designed for doctors, accountants, university administrators and NGO field staff, the 15-inch Laptop Privacy Filter Wide handles the everyday risk of being read over the shoulder. Larger 15-inch screens are easy to read from the next seat, whether you are reviewing patient files in a Kilimani clinic, checking KRA returns in a shared office, or replying to donors on a long bus ride to Kisumu. The 15-inch Laptop Privacy Filter Wide keeps the view sharp for you and turns the screen dark for others. It suits the taller 16:10 panels found on many 15.4-inch laptops still working hard in Kenyan offices.
Unlike other electronics retailers in Kenya that sell one 15-inch sheet for every big laptop, Mascom International keeps two cuts: this taller 16:10 sheet and a wider 16:9 version for 15.6-inch screens. At Mascom International, we're seeing more buyers bring older 15.4-inch business laptops back into service, and the right cut matters for them. Measure the glowing part of your screen or share the model on WhatsApp. Then walk in and have the 15-inch Laptop Privacy Filter Wide fitted at the counter, or order pay-on-arrival delivery anywhere in Kenya.
Common Questions About the 15-inch Laptop Privacy Filter Wide
What is the 15-inch Laptop Privacy Filter Wide price in Kenya?
The 15-inch Laptop Privacy Filter Wide sells for KSh 3,500 brand new at Mascom International, Kimathi Street, Nairobi CBD. That figure includes the 333 x 208mm filter sheet, bezel mounting tabs, a cleaning cloth, a 6-month warranty and fitting at our counter when you bring the laptop in. You pay on arrival if you choose delivery. The 15-inch Laptop Privacy Filter for 15.6-inch 16:9 screens is also KSh 3,500, so the only choice to make is the screen shape.
Should I choose the 15-inch Laptop Privacy Filter Wide or the standard 15-inch Laptop Privacy Filter?
Choose by the measured screen: 333 x 208mm takes the 15-inch Laptop Privacy Filter Wide, and about 345 x 194mm takes the standard 15-inch Laptop Privacy Filter. The Wide model is a 16:10 cut for 15.4-inch class panels, so it is taller and narrower. The standard model is a 16:9 cut for 15.6-inch laptops, which are most new 15-inch machines sold in Kenya today. Both cost KSh 3,500 at Mascom International, and a wrong pick leaves an uncovered strip along one edge.
What is a 15.4-inch class 16:10 screen, and how do I check mine?
A 15.4-inch class 16:10 screen is a laptop display whose height is ten-sixteenths of its width, giving a lit area close to 333 x 208mm. Many business laptops from the late 2000s and early 2010s use this shape. Check yours by measuring the lit area with a ruler, width then height, ignoring the black border. If you get roughly 333 by 208, the 15-inch Laptop Privacy Filter Wide fits. If the width runs near 345mm and height near 194mm, you need the 16:9 version.
Can I use the 15-inch Laptop Privacy Filter Wide on a MacBook Pro 15-inch?
No, the 15-inch Laptop Privacy Filter Wide is cut for Windows laptops with 15.4-inch class panels, and MacBook frames differ in shape and bezel. Mascom International stocks the MacBook Pro 15-inch A1707 A1990 A1286 Privacy Filter at KSh 4,000, cut for those three models. If your 15-inch MacBook carries a different A-number, check it under the laptop and send it to us on WhatsApp. We will name the matching filter before you order, so you avoid paying for a sheet that does not sit flat.
Does the 15-inch Laptop Privacy Filter Wide drain more battery during power cuts?
The 15-inch Laptop Privacy Filter Wide draws no power itself, but you may raise screen brightness a little because the micro-louver film dims the view slightly from the front. A brighter screen uses more battery, which matters during a KPLC outage when the laptop runs unplugged. Customers across Nairobi tell us one or two brightness steps is usually enough. To stretch battery in a long blackout, lift the filter off when you are alone and refit it when others sit nearby.
Who should buy the 15-inch Laptop Privacy Filter Wide, and who should skip it?
Buy the 15-inch Laptop Privacy Filter Wide if your laptop has a 15.4-inch class 16:10 screen and you open confidential work in clinics, banks, shared offices or public transport. Skip it if your laptop has a 15.6-inch 16:9 screen, which covers most current models, and take the standard 15-inch Laptop Privacy Filter instead. Skip it too if you own a 16-inch laptop, because the sheet is too small. Owners of 14-inch 16:10 machines should choose the 14-inch Laptop Privacy Filter Wide.
How do I fit and remove the 15-inch Laptop Privacy Filter Wide myself?
Fitting the 15-inch Laptop Privacy Filter Wide takes a few minutes and needs no tools. Wipe the screen with the cleaning cloth, stick the slim mounting tabs to the bezel at the sides, then slide the filter into them so it covers the lit area evenly. To remove it, lift the sheet out of the tabs; nothing sticks to the display. If you prefer, bring the laptop to Mascom International on Kimathi Street and a technician fits it at no extra charge.
Is the 15-inch Laptop Privacy Filter Wide worth it for a student or field worker in Kenya?
Yes, the 15-inch Laptop Privacy Filter Wide is worth KSh 3,500 to anyone who opens exam scripts, research data, M-Pesa statements or beneficiary records in shared spaces. Students at Kenyatta University and JKUAT working in crowded libraries keep their drafts private. NGO field staff in Nakuru or Eldoret keep beneficiary lists away from onlookers. The matte face also helps outdoors, cutting harsh reflections when you work in bright daylight under a tent or veranda.
Technical Specifications
Core Function and Privacy Performance
- Micro-louver film — microscopic slats inside the sheet aim light straight forward and stop it reaching side viewers.
- Left and right privacy — the display goes dark for people seated on either side of you at once.
- Blackout beyond about 30 degrees — move past that angle and the screen reads as a dark, blank surface.
- Viewing cone close to 60 degrees overall — you can lean or shift slightly and still read every line comfortably.
- Matte surface — scatters reflections from windows, daylight and office lighting so glare bothers you less outdoors and indoors.
- Mild front dimming — expect to raise brightness a notch, since the slats hold back a little light even head-on.
- On and off in seconds — remove the sheet for group viewing, then slide it back into its tabs afterwards.
Compatibility and Sizing
- 16:10 aspect ratio — the taller screen shape, where height is ten-sixteenths of the width, used on 15.4-inch class laptops.
- Sheet measures 333 x 208mm — compare it with your own lit screen width and height before you order.
- Covers 15.4-inch class Windows laptops — common on business models from the late 2000s and early 2010s still used in Kenya.
- Not a match for 15.6-inch 16:9 laptops — those near 345 x 194mm need the standard 15-inch Laptop Privacy Filter.
- Not cut for MacBook Pro 15-inch — the A1707, A1990 and A1286 have their own dedicated filter at KSh 4,000.
- Too small for 16-inch laptops — larger panels would leave uncovered edges where side viewers could still read text.
Build and Mounting
- Black micro-louver sheet with a matte front — sits neatly against dark laptop bezels and dulls screen shine.
- Bezel mounting tabs — slim tabs stick to the frame around the display, never to the screen glass itself.
- Clean removal — the sheet lifts free without leaving glue marks, film or haze on your laptop display.
- Acts as a screen guard — dust, fingerprints and small scuffs land on the filter rather than the panel underneath.
- Thin and flexible — slides into a laptop bag pocket or sleeve when you take it off for the evening.
- Free counter fitting — Mascom technicians at Kimathi Street place the tabs so the sheet sits square and even.
